Deion Sanders Proud of Colorado's Comeback Effort vs. USC
BOULDER, Colo. -- Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders expressed pride in his team's comeback effort against No. 8 USC, despite the 48-41 loss. Led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes outscored the Trojans 27-14 in the second half and 14-0 in the fourth quarter, while outgaining coach Lincoln Riley's offense 564-498.
"Overall, I'm really proud," Deion Sanders said. "Not only of the young men, [but] the coaches, the fan base, the student body. I think we showed the world that we're a team to be reckoned with."
Colorado trailed 34-14 at halftime, but the Buffaloes came out firing in the second half. They scored touchdowns on their first three possessions of the third quarter, capped by Shedeur Sanders' 75-yard pass to RJ Sneed.
The Buffaloes cut the Trojans' lead to 48-41 with 1:20 remaining in the game, but USC was able to run out the clock.
"We didn't win, but we showed that we can compete with anybody in the country," Shedeur Sanders said. "We're a young team, but we're growing up fast."
Deion Sanders was particularly impressed with his team's resilience in the face of adversity.
"We got down early, but we didn't give up," he said. "We kept fighting until the very end. That's the kind of character I want my teams to have."
Sanders also praised the performance of several young players, including true freshman running back Omarion Miller, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown.
"Omarion is a special player," Sanders said. "He's got a bright future ahead of him."
Colorado's comeback effort against USC was a sign that the Buffaloes are on the right track under Sanders. The team is still young and learning, but it has the potential to be a contender in the Pac-12 in the near future.
