Jaguars Offense Takes Baby Steps in Win Over Falcons in London
The Jacksonville Jaguars offense took baby steps forward in their 23-7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in London on Sunday. While it wasn't a dominant performance, the Jaguars made several big plays that showed progress.
Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars' second-year quarterback, threw for 211 yards and a touchdown. He also made several key plays with his feet, rushing for 40 yards.
One of Lawrence's biggest plays came in the fourth quarter on the Jaguars' lone touchdown drive. Facing a fourth-and-four at the Falcons' 10-yard line, Lawrence hit wide receiver Calvin Ridley for a 10-yard gain to keep the drive alive.
The Jaguars also showed growth in their ability to run the ball. They rushed for 173 yards, led by running back James Robinson's 78 yards.
The Jaguars' offense wasn't perfect. They turned the ball over twice and struggled to sustain drives in the second half. But they made enough big plays to win the game.
"The offense did some good things today," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said. "We made some big plays in the passing game and the running game. But we still have a lot of work to do. We need to be more consistent and we need to take care of the ball."
The Jaguars' offense has been a major concern for the team over the past two seasons. They ranked 30th in the NFL in scoring in 2021 and 29th in 2020.
But the Jaguars are hoping that their offense has turned a corner. They have a new head coach in Pederson, who is known for his offensive prowess. And they have a young quarterback in Lawrence who has the potential to be a star.
The Jaguars' offense may not be humming along yet, but they made progress in their win over the Falcons. If they can continue to improve, they could be a dangerous team in the AFC South this season.
