10 Utah Football Falls 21-7 At #19 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore.

The #10 Utah Utes suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, falling to the #19 Oregon State Beavers 21-7. The Utes were without starting quarterback Cameron Rising for the second consecutive game, and their offense struggled to get going without him.

Utah managed just 198 total yards in the game, including 141 passing yards from backup quarterback Bryson Barnes. The Utes were also held to 57 rushing yards, their lowest total since 2021.

Oregon State, on the other hand, had a much more balanced offensive attack. The Beavers rushed for 168 yards and passed for 193 yards. Silas Bolden was the star of the show for Oregon State, catching a 27-yard touchdown pass and running 45 yards for another score.

The Beavers got on the board first early in the first quarter when Damien Martinez scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Oregon State added to its lead later in the first quarter when Bolden caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

The Beavers extended their lead to 21-0 early in the fourth quarter when Bolden ran 45 yards for a touchdown. Utah finally got on the board with 5:05 to go in the game when Yassmin caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Barnes.

The Utes will look to bounce back next week when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils.

What Went Wrong for Utah?

There were a number of things that went wrong for Utah in this game. First and foremost, the Utes' offense was simply ineffective. They struggled to move the ball downfield and failed to convert in key situations.

Second, Utah's defense gave up too many big plays. The Beavers had several touchdown drives of over 70 yards.

Finally, the Utes made too many mistakes. They had several turnovers and missed penalties.

What's Next for Utah?

The Utes will need to regroup and find a way to get their offense back on track. They will also need to improve their defense and cut down on mistakes.

Utah is still a good team, but they will need to play better if they want to compete for the Pac-12 championship.
